Akwa Ibom Meeting Declares Two Seats Vacant – Report

The Akwa Ibom State Home of Meeting on Tuesday throughout its complete pronounced the seats of Esit Eket and Ikono State Constituencies empty following the abandonment of two members from the Peoples Democratic Celebration to the Younger Progressive Celebration.
The seats have been concerned by Usoro Akpanusoh, addressing Esit Eket; and Asuquo Nana Udo, addressing Ikono constituencies.
The Speaker of the Home, Aniekan Bassey, whereas reporting the alternatives, stated the home drew its solidarity from Phase 109 (1) (a-g) of the Structure of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as modified.
The Speaker stated the part stipulates thus: “Being an individual whose election to the Home of Meeting was sponsored by a political get together, he turns into a member of one other political get together earlier than the expiration of the interval for which that Home was elected.

In the meantime, the Chairman of the Home Committee on Info, Aniefiok Dennis (Etinan), who addressed the press shortly after the plenary, stated “the Speaker relied on the provisions of Part 109(1)(g) in declaring the seats vacant. He acted in compliance with extant legislation, for the reason that affected Honourable Members deserted their seats, given to them by the Individuals’s Democratic Celebration (PDP).”
The Home was subsequently concluded to Thursday, October 13, 2022, by 10am.
